A Houston nurse wearing a hijab was stabbed by two men in Houston. ABC affiliate KTRK-TV reports that a $5,000 reward has been offered to help apprehend the two people who stabbed her. The victim, a white woman who will remain anonymous for her protection, got out of her car after the men sideswiped her car as she was driving home from work.
As she was inspecting the car, the perpetrators made a u-turn in their red SUV and pulled up behind the victim’s car on the side of the road.
According to KTRK, the “driver reportedly got out of his SUV and began shouting obscenities and racial and religious slurs such as, “Oh my God, it’s a r**head,” “It’s an f***ing r**head,” “sand n*****” and other derogatory terms.”
The victim, certain that his reaction was due to her Islamic headscarf and the driver’s road rage, tried to get back into her vehicle from the passenger side, but the door was locked.
“At that point the attacker began waving a knife in the victim’s face and then hit her with its handle on her shoulder and arms,” the news report revealed. “A man who was riding in the alleged attacker’s SUV got out and tried to restrain him, but not before the woman was stabbed in the arm. The attacker’s passenger reportedly convinced him to get back in his SUV and they left the scene,” the story continued.
Once the attackers fled, the woman returned to the hospital at which she works to get medical attention for her bleeding artery. Here are pictures of the damage her attacker caused.
Police described the attacker and his companion as “white males, 20 to 35 years of age.” The man wielding the knife had tattoos emblazoned on his arms and neck.
Mustafaa Carroll, Executive Director of the Houston office of the Council on American Islamic Relations, appealed to anyone with information on the assault or the assailants to contact local police.
“We hope that anyone who has information about this potentially deadly and apparently bias-motivated attack will immediately contact law enforcement authorities,” he said.
