A Louisiana court is set to hear Democratic Governor John Bel Edwards appeal on the Executive Order against anti-discrimination that he signed last year. The Executive Order was designed to stop Louisiana state agencies from discriminating based on gender identity and sexual orientation. It also required that state contracts must include protection for members of the LGBT community. Edwards was sued by Republican Attorney General Jeff Landry over the order. On Tuesday, a group comprising of 96 members of Congress reintroduced legislation to benefit the LGBT community. The LGBT Data Inclusion Act was designed to increase LGBT representation through legislation. It works by requiring federal surveys to include questions on gender identity and sexual orientation for the purposes of data collection. This is especially important for the decennial census.
