Good riddance! Bill O’Reilly has officially been fired from Fox News, following a spate of sexual harassment allegations against him. Tucker Carlson is set to take over O’Reilly’s spot in the Fox News lineup.
Parent company 21st Century Fox sent an email, signed by Rupert Murdoch and his sons Lachlan and James, to employees to inform them of the decision to let O’Reilly go.
“After a thorough and careful review of the allegations, the Company and Bill O’Reilly have agreed that Bill O’Reilly will not be returning to the Fox News Channel. The decision follows an extensive review done in collaboration with outside counsel,” the email said.
O’Reilly has been off the air since April 12, following the discovery earlier in the month that he and Fox News had paid $13 million to settle sexual harassment cases with a multitude of victims.
While firing the network’s most popular host may have been a tough decision to make, the Murdoch family, which controls parent company 21st Century Fox, felt pressured to act by an exodus of advertisers as well as mounting public pressure.
