We’ve all heard the excuses the GOP, and mostly Mitch McConnell, offered for refusing to hold confirmation hearings for Merrick Garland, President Barack Obama’s SCOTUS nominee. Well, McConnell slipped up and let the truth out by accident, thereby destroying his own credibility. You can see the video evidence is below.
McConnell’s favorite excuse for not allowing Obama’s Supreme Court nominee through was that “it’s up to the next elected president to appoint a replacement.” These were his exact words, which he spouted for weeks. The GOP claims that this would give the American people “a voice” — by allowing to pick a president and thus determining which side gets to choose the justice to fill Antonin Scalia’s seat.
CNN’s Dana Bash asked McConnell what Republicans would do if the Democratic nominee won in the election — would Republicans then concede and hold hearings for Garland?
This is where McConnell slipped up.
